▶ Introducing Xavier Jesuit School (XJS)
Founded in 2015, Xavier Jesuit School (XJS) is located in Sisophon, in Cambodia’s northwestern Banteay Meanchey province—one of the country’s least developed regions. The school was established with the goal of offering high-quality education to young people from rural communities, as part of a wider Jesuit mission to improve educational opportunities in Cambodia.
XJS is more than just a school; it is a growing educational community rooted in the Jesuit tradition, which places strong emphasis on academic excellence, social justice, and the formation of compassionate leaders. It offers a Catholic education focused on nurturing well-rounded individuals, empowering both students and teachers to grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually.
The school champions critical thinking, encouraging students to reflect on other cultures and engage deeply with both human and natural sciences. It places a strong focus on digital literacy and innovative teaching methods, seeking to move away from rote learning toward inquiry-based education. Through its commitment to compassionate service, XJS aims to equip its students to become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond.
▶ A Meaningful Partnership Between LIX and XJS
Since December 2024, a unique educational and cultural exchange has been taking place between students from LIX and Xavier Jesuit School in Cambodia. As part of this international partnership, six 10th grade students and three 11th grade students from LIX have been leading weekly English classes online with Cambodian students in Grade 6, Grade 8, Grade 11, and Grade 12.
These sessions, held over videoconference, go beyond language lessons—they are opportunities for cultural dialogue, friendship, and mutual growth. Students from both schools have been able to share their experiences, traditions, and aspirations in a setting that encourages empathy, curiosity, and understanding.
One 10th grade student from LIX reflected:
“It was such a rewarding and unique experience, far beyond the usual academic setting. It allowed me to form real, heartfelt connections with the students from XJS. Despite the distance, we bonded quickly and learned so much from one another.”
▶ Looking Ahead: A Journey to Cambodia
This coming June, the collaboration will deepen further as a group of LIX students travels to Cambodia for ten days to meet their XJS counterparts in person. This visit marks a new chapter in the partnership—one that will allow students to share daily life, attend classes together, and work on joint educational projects. It’s an opportunity to experience each other’s cultures firsthand and build lasting memories.
The LIX–XJS exchange exemplifies the power of education to connect people across borders. By embracing diversity and working together, these two schools are nurturing not only knowledge, but also compassion and global citizenship. Through this program, students are discovering that learning is not confined to classrooms—it can also be a bridge between worlds.
